It isn’t often that you see a team’s mascot stick around for 27 years. That’s one of the reasons why a new exhibit was unveiled this morning at The Rooms.
Buddy the Puffin has been an important part of the sports community in the province since the St. John’s Maple Leafs and has endured to represent the Newfoundland Growlers.
Although the Newfoundland Dog is the team’s logo, the puffin has fit right in with the team.
“Three Cheers for Buddy the Puffin” is a collection of costumes and outfits worn by Buddy, in honour of Buddy Appreciation Day on December 17.
Operator and COO of the Growlers, Glenn Stanford says Buddy brings joy to the team and means a lot to everyone—especially the fans.

Standford says he has been the first guy that they sign, and is a wonderful ambassador. Buddy has given out countless autographs and pictures over the years, and has attended hundreds of events for all ages.
The celebrations continue at the Growlers’ game on home ice on December 17 against the Thunder. That game will feature special clothing for Buddy to wear.
The exhibit is located on the third floor of The Rooms, and is available until January 12.
