Municipal workers in the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor will demonstrate outside the town hall over the lunch hour today about what they see as a violation of their collective agreement.
CUPE says the town is not being up front with residents about operational changes to be implemented over the next two months.
In a letter received from the town a little over a week ago, the union found a number of “red flags” that will affect unionized workers, violate the collective agreement and impact services to residents.
CUPE national rep Ed White says the town is cutting a security position even though more police presence is needed to combat an increase in crime and drug use.
They’re also concerned about what they see as a plan to contract out services despite already having qualified in-house staff to do the work.
