Four people, including two young children have been displaced by a fire which caused extensive damage to a home in the centre city area.
Shortly before 7:00 p.m., several 911 calls were received reporting smoke coming from a home on Suez Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy smoke coming from the dwelling, and fire quickly spreading throughout the main floor of the two-unit home.
Flames were also coming from the front windows of the home, igniting the exterior. High winds fanned the flames as crews tried to quickly bring the fire under control, which at one point started to threaten an adjacent home.
According to Paul Chaytor, Platoon Chief with St. John’s Regional Fire Department, There were no injuries.
The Canadian Red Cross provided emergency lodging, food, clothing and comfort toys to a woman and her two young children. The man who lived in the other unit has made his own arrangements.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
