Two passengers on a PAL flight from Happy Valley-Goose Bay to St. John’s via Deer Lake accused of spinning racial slurs have been banned from the airline indefinitely. But PAL has stopped short of banning alcohol from its flights.
Peter Penashue, a former president of the Innu Nation and former MP, alleges that the two men were drunk and using racist language.
Nunatsiavut president Johannes Lamp is equally disturbed.
Penashue was happy that they were cut off from alcohol on the Deer Lake-St. John’s leg but the abuse began as they were boarding in Goose when one of them directed a remark at Tony Anderson of the Nunatsiavut Government.
PAL says it is deeply troubled by the nature of the remarks and saddened that their customers were exposed to this behaviour.
Meanwhile, the NunatuKavut Community Council is also expressing their outrage at what they are calling the “absolutely unacceptable” actions of the two men on the Pal Flight.
President Todd Russell says he was disappointed to learn of what happened, and condemns what happened as “vile and discriminatory.” He commends those who posted about the actions online, and PAL for banning the passengers from future flights.
