Dr. Timmons grew up in Labrador City, before moving to Alberta and British Columbia to peruse teaching. She moved back to Atlantic Canada where she served in roles at multiple universities, in their education department and involving academic development.
She was appointed as president of the University of Regina in 2008.
As an officer of the Order of Canada and recipient of the Inspire Award for Education, Iris Petten—who chairs MUN’s Board of Regents—says Timmons is qualified, and demonstrates a passion for creating a community.
Current president Gary Kachanoski will remain in the role until March 31, 2020.
