The animal rescue charity Heavenly Creatures has over 90 animals in its care and also runs a pet food bank for low income pet owners.
Heavenly Creatures President, Jessica Rendell says most of their pet food is donated around Christmas time and they often have to make it last until the next holiday season. Rendell says right now they need everything. She says things like wet and dry cat food, treats for cats and dogs and scoopable cat litter can be donated.
Food is not the charity’s only issue this Christmas season. Rendell says they also help low income pet owners with vet bills. She says their debt has doubled to $20,000 in the last few weeks.
Rendell says she had 50 people come for pet food in the span of three hours. She says many seniors, people with subsistence abuse and single parent families who are in need.
Heavenly Creatures Christmas Pet Food and Donation Drive starts this Saturday and continues until December 23rd. For information or to donate go to heavenlycreatures.ca.
