New smart phones are on Christmas lists in a lot of households this year, and the old ones can be put to good use with a program offered by CNIB.
The Phone It Forward program takes old donated smart phones and brings them into the hands of individuals in the community who are blind or partially sighted.
CNIB Community and Volunteer Engagement Lead, Kelly Picco, says the phones have accessible technology that can help with daily tasks.
She says there are a number of applications available that people can download and some of them are free.
An example she gives is an application that takes a photo of the shirt you have picked out and the application will recite what the colour is.
