The stigma against sex workers remains high and a local group is bringing awareness to that.
Today is the international day to end violence against sex workers.
Safe Harbour Outreach Project is hosting a short film screening tonight at Eastern Edge to continue the conversation about violence against the sex workers in our communities.
Program Coordinator Heather Jarvis says it is important that people know that the term sex worker was given by the sex workers themselves and that needs to be taken seriously. They wanted to offer the event as a way for the community to come together and listen and learn to better respond when sex workers are talking about violence in their lives.
The event begins at 6:00 p.m. You can find more information here.
