One person is in hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries following a single vehicle collision on the Trans Canada Highway in Whitborne.

The roads in the area are icy and there are snow squalls in multiple sections of the highway.

Fire crews say the jaws of life were needed to remove the driver.

Eastbound traffic was blocked in one lane for a period of time on Saturday morning.
