Teachers are concerned about what they see as a rising level of violence in our secondary school system.
It was only a couple of weeks ago that two students from Sacred Heart, a K-7 school in Marystown, were charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
They have been ordered by the courts not to attend school. The pair will be back in court January 15.
NLTA President Dean Ingram has been a part of discussions at the national level on violence in schools but in order to address the problem, he says you first have to find what the problem is. He believes a student can become frustrated with the system if their expectations are not being met.
He says that’s why they have called for an independent review of the teacher allocation model. He believes there are frustrated primary and elementary children because their needs are not being met.
