Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is taking steps to reduce or eliminate heavy vibrations at one of the generating units at Soldiers Pond. Nalcor president and CEO Stan Marshall visited the site late last week to talk things over with their engineers.
That’s where the Labrador-Island Link (LIL) converts the power for use on the Avalon Peninsula.
There are three units at the site, and Marshall says they’ll remove the bearings from the one which is vibrating and return them to the manufacturer.
Marshall says they will also make some site modifications and install extra bracing to control the vibrations.
