The holidays should be a time for celebration rather than tragedy.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department is offering tips on how to “stay fire safe” this holiday season.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department says that when it comes to live Christmas trees, you should check for freshness of the trees before buying them and add water to the tree stand daily. If you’re using artificial trees, be sure the tree says “fire resistant” on the label.
They also advise you to never leave candles lit or Christmas lights turned on when you leave the home or go to bed.
As always practice caution and proper procedures when using electrical outlets or fireplaces.
