The city of St. John’s is implementing its on street parking ban early due to heavy snowfall forecast to hit the area.
The ban, which affects areas outside the downtown, as well as the Business District winter parking restriction, will come into effect at 12:30 a.m. on Christmas morning.
The Business District restriction affects the areas of Water Street – from Waldegrave Street to Prescott Street – and Duckworth Street -from New Gower Street to Cochrane Street.
The ban was originally supposed to begin on January 8th, but has to be implemented early because of the forecast.
The on street parking ban is from 12:30 to 7:30 each morning, and the business district restriction will be in place from 4:00 to 6:00 each morning, regardless of street and sidewalk conditions.
The parking ban will be lifted when weather conditions improve, which is usually in early April.
Due to the volume of snow forecasted, the City of St. John’s is required to implement the on-street parking ban outside the downtown, and the Business District winter parking restriction as of 12:30 am on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019.
