Is there a cab shortage in the capital city?
One former cab owner strongly suspects there is, and rising insurance rates are to blame.
Doug McCarthy says he sold his own cab licence because the cost of operating a cab was getting too great.
There are 365 licences in the capital city region. He sold his own licence, but whether that was put on another cab, he can’t say.
He says the cost of insurance has simply gotten too great.
The industry is doing what it can to take problem drivers off the road according to McCarthy, but cab drivers are people too, and sometimes make mistakes.
