A reconfiguring of the business plan for Mile One Centre and the Convention Centre will be one of the big challenges for the City of St. John’s in the new year.
In the recent St. John’s municipal budget, the operating subsidy for St. John’s Sports and Entertainment ballooned by about $1-million, thanks in part to the recent 10-year leases signed with the St. John’s Edge and the Newfoundland Growlers.
Mayor Danny Breen notes that is just an estimate, and could be lower or higher depending one what kind of business Mile One ends up doing.
However, the Mayor does note that the expected increase, as well as other economic factors, will require the city to create a new business approach for SJSE moving forward—which the ciy hopes will help drive more activity and create more business for SJSE.
