The new flashing beacons installed at the Rawlins Cross roundabout will make a difference to pedestrian safety, according to the city’s lead on traffic.
It was announced earlier this month that, weather permitting, the beacons will be installed at Rawlins Cross during Christmas week to help address safety concerns in the area.
Councilor Sandy Hickman says the new lights will be very noticeable for drivers. Hickman says they will definitively let drivers know, no matter what lane they are in, that someone needs to cross the road and that they need to stop.
According to Hickman, this is not the be all end all for pedestrian safety measures in the area.
If more is needed they will certainly have a look at it. He notes that they will be gathering information from their own studies and data collected from the province on accidents. He says a final decision on the future of the area will be coming within the next few months.
