It’s been a busy year for the Department of Health and Community Services with the expanding of programs and services, and a number of infrastructure projects well underway.
John Haggie says the Department has seen continued expansion of mental health and addictions services, regional hubs set up with spokes in places like Bell Island, and sharps boxes distributed across the province. Haggie says they are working to expand those services.
There are now 12 primary healthcare teams when three years ago there were just one or two, along with numerous infrastructure projects underway.
Haggie expects to have the keys to the new long-term care facility in Corner Brook on Valentine’s Day 2020.
Otherwise, there have been starts on long-term care construction in Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor, the expansion of the Hugh Thomey Centre in Botwood, and design work ongoing for mental health beds in Goose Bay.
