Canada has suffered its worst loss in World Juniors history after a crushing defeat at the hands of Team Russia.
Team Canada was dominated early on by Russia, allowing three goals in each of the first two periods.
The Canadians held their own in third by not allowing a single goal, finishing the game with a final score of 6-0.
The loss did have a silver lining for Newfoundland and Labrador’s own Dawson Mercer, as he was bumped up in the lineup early in the second period after Alexis Lafrenière was taken off of the ice with an apparent leg injury.
Team Canada, along with the other four teams in Group B of the World Junior Hockey Championship, now stand at 1-1 in the round robin.
Canada’s next game is against Germany on Monday.
