To say the past year has been one of change for MusicNL would be an understatement.
The organization, which helps to promote musical talent in Newfoundland and Labrador, went through financial and structural uncertainty earlier this year.
Interim Board Chair Amy House says amongst some board resignations and staff changes, the financial uncertainty wasn’t known until the current board was in place.
House says the recent audit revealed the deficit to be over $192,000 – something she says is “quite significant” for an organization of their size. Although the current amount is staggering, House says she is pleased with how hard the board is working to resolve the matter.
As work continues on cutting the debt, they have already seen plans begin to bring it down.
House says in the 2019-2020 year they expect to bring the deficit down $40,000, another $100,000 in the following year and balancing the budget in the third year.
The group will be hosting its awards show, albeit on a smaller scale, January 26th-28th in St. John’s.
