A funeral service will be held today for a little boy from Clarenville who died in a tragic accident on Christmas Day.
10-year-old Joshua Wilcox was riding in a side-by side with his father when the machine broke through some ice near the community.
Since Joshua’s death there has been a massive outpouring of support from hockey organizations around the province.
It began Christmas Day night when people began posting pictures of hockey sticks outside front doors as a sign of support for the Wilcox family.
The Clarenville Area Minor Hockey Association has been taking donations for the family and at Christmas tournaments around the province moments of silence have been observed out of respect for the young boy who played in the atom league.
Pastor Andrew Ball will be presiding over the funeral service today. He notes the family is doing as well as can be expected, but are being helped along by the support of the community.
He says over the last few days he has seen what it truly means to “love your neighbor as yourself, and that the family has been receiving an outpouring of love and support.
Mayor of Clarenville Frazer Russell says with school set to reopen next week and minor hockey soon resuming it will be a tough time for those who knew Joshua.
The Pentecostal service will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at the Memorial United Church in Clarenville.
Meanwhile, condolences continue to pour in for 10-year-old Joshua Wilcox, including a message from Hockey Canada.
Hockey Canada took to Twitter to say that they are saddened and heartbroken to hear of Wilcox’s passing.
The tweet went on to say that the hockey community and all Canadians are grieving with the family and friends of Joshua, and the community of Clarenville.
