The weather is looking good for New Year’s festivities this evening, but the first day of 2020 is looking like a messy one.
Environment Canada meteorologist Justin Boudreau says snow will start along the south coast in the early morning hours before spreading to the rest of the island by mid-day.
According to Boudreau, the snow will eventually change over the ice pellets and then rain, but not before dropping a few centimetres of snow.
It’s looking as though the higher amounts will accumulate in Southwest and Central Newfoundland. The Southeast will likely see in the range of five to 10 centimetres, but Boudreau isn’t ruling out the possibility of up to 15 centimetres.
Winds will pick up between 60 to 80 km/h as well. So while there may not be as much snow falling, the blowing snow will create hazardous conditions.
