The Avalon can expect snow and high winds beginning on Sunday evening.
Snow will start around 5 p.m. becoming heavy overnight and into Monday Morning.
Environment Canada Meteorologist, Todd Anstett says we can expect 20-30 cm of snow in St. John’s and the rest of the Avalon. A special weather statement is in effect for these regions.
Strong winds are also expected to develop overnight on Sunday into Monday morning with gusts up to 80 km/h, reaching 100 km/h in some exposed areas.
Anstett says blowing snow may slow drivers down on Monday morning.
He says there will be poor visibility on Monday when drivers are heading to work and travelling back home from Christmas holidays.
Anstett expects the snow to change to flurries around 9 a.m. Monday morning and most of the snow to end around noon.
