Police are continuing to send out warnings as people continue to venture onto unsafe ice, even after recent incidents across the province.
RCMP in Mary’s Harbour are warning people of unsafe ice conditions in the community after seeing snowmobile tracks crossing the harbour in the area.
Police say mild temperatures so far this winter have resulted in ice conditions that are unsafe for all vehicles.
Officers are concerned for the youth in the area who may follow the tracks of others who have ventured out onto the thin ice.
RCMP say that checking ice conditions one day does not mean they will remain the same for any given amount of time.
The RCMP says even after checking the ice, people should proceed with caution as many variables including temperature, winds and water currents can impact the safety of the ice surface, as no open body of water covered with ice can ever be considered completely safe.
