The release of an Amber Alert to help locate a missing child in the province earlier this week was successful, but many are questioning why there was a delay between when the alert was issued and the electronic notification.
Superintendant Patrick Roach with the RNC says putting together the initial alert takes a bit of time, as they want it to be well-informed and accurate.
According to Roach, the Amber Alert was issued at 3:15 Thursday afternoon – garnering over 300,000 hits and shares on social media.
However, the electronic alert that is sent to phones, TVs and radios wasn’t sent out until after 5:30.
Roach says crunching that time between the two releases is something they will be working on. They have a liaison within the provincial government who they work with to issue alerts. He notes the electronic alerts are relatively new and they are working to ensure they are sent out in closer to proximity to each other.
