The aftermath of a storm that dropped over 40 cm of snow on the metro region was the cause of many headaches yesterday as residents tried to dig out, and the workers at Rainbow Riders were no exception.
Yesterday evening the organization took to social media to ask for help in digging out the paddocks for the horses and the trails to them.
Executive director Kelly Sandoval says the group did manage to clear the paths, but the problem lies with clearing out the paddocks, which is where the horses are released for exercise. The snow has gotten so high in those areas that the horses could not safely be let out.
They have snow clearing equipment, which is a tractor with a snow blower attachment, but it cannot fit into the enclosure to clear the snow away. They fear the horses may be able to get over the fences and run away because of snow drifts.
Sandoval says they have received some inquiries about getting the work done, but don’t have anything concrete in place yet.
She notes snow in the paddocks hasn’t really been an issue in the past, but says they will be looking at purchasing a residential snowblower to have on hand in the future.
