The close-knit community of Conne River has been coping as best as it can in the year since the murder of one of their own.
28-year-old Chantel John was killed one year ago. Kirk Keeping of St. Jacques, is awaiting trial on charges of first degree murder and attempted murder.
A memorial park was dedicated in John’s memory today, in a ceremony that was moved to a local gymnasium due to the weather.
Sagimaw Mi’sel Joe says the case continues to wind its way through the courts, something that has been very trying for the family.
He says it’s still a topic of almost daily conversation in the community.
