A long-time fisherman says revelations that the 3PS cod stock is now deep into the “critical” zone, comes as no surprise.
Peter Leonard of Arnold’s Cove says 3PS wasn’t ready for an offshore factory freezer fishery, but the concerns of inshore fishermen were ignored by decision-makers and bad management is to blame.
Leonard says not enough information has been shared on what constitutes “natural mortality.”
He wants to know if that includes seals, or seismic exploration work.
