The original Irish Descendants are getting back together to rock the tent on September 19 at the Iceberg Alley Concert Series.
It will be a true Newfoundland and Labrador kitchen party also featuring performances from The Navigators and The Masterless Men.
The band was formed when members from two bands, The Descendants and Irish Coffee, got together in 1990. The Irish Descendants grew in popularity throughout the 1990s, recording several titles such as Misty Morning Shore, Gypsies and Lovers, and Livin’ on the Edge.
Their 1993 album, Look to the Sea, was recorded through their deal with Warner Music and scored them a Juno Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year. They also won Entertainer of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards that same year.
Original members, Con O’Brien, D’Arcy Broderick, Ronnie Power and Larry Martin, were selected to play as the official band of the province’s 500th anniversary celebration, where the Queen was present.
It was in 1997 on New Year’s Day when the original line up of the band parted ways.
They will come together for the first time since then at the concert series alongside nationally and internationally acclaimed entertainment.
Producer, Shawn Basha, says this year they wanted to switch things up. He says there is no better way to do that than to bring a well loved local band back together.
He says that people are in for an amazing show.
So far, the only other acts announced are April Wine, Trooper and Chilliwack on Saturday, September 12.
