The newly appointed CEO of Food First NL says access to nutritious, safe and culturally appropriate food in the province’s institutions is one of the focuses of the group in the year ahead.
Josh Smee was appointed to the position this week.
He says while the mandate of Food First NL is wide-ranging, institutional food will be one of his areas of focus as he gets settled into the new role.
Smee asks how the province can better leverage more local production for food offered in schools and hospitals.
Smee says more local farmers need to be fed into the procurement and tendering process for hospitals and other institutions – an area where Food First NL can play a role.
