A mass alert sent out to people in Ontario this morning was sent out in error, says Ontario Power Generation.
Earlier this morning an emergency alert was sent out applying to people within 10 kilometres of the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.
The message said there had been an incident at the plant, but there had not been an abnormal release of radioactivity from the station, and residents do not need to take any protective action.
Ontario Power Generation took to Twitter shortly after to confirm that the message had been sent out in error.
Important update: the alert regarding #Pickering Nuclear was sent in error. There is no danger to the public or environment.

As well, the Ontario government has sent out a retraction, saying there is no active nuclear situation taking place and that there is no danger to the public or environment.
There is no word yet as to what caused the alert to be released.
