A film that includes a supporting role played by Newfoundlander Mark O’Brien is up for six academy awards.
Marriage Story, a comedy drama written, directed and produced by Noah Baumbach follows one couple’s divorce.
The movie has received nods in six categories: Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Score, Best Actor and Actress, and Best Supporting Actress.

The film, which has received widespread critical acclaim, stars Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver.
Mark O’Brien plays the role of Carter, an environmental consultant for a television pilot.
O’Brien has acted in a number of film and television projects over the years including the lead role of Terry Sawchuk in the film, Goalie.
He’s perhaps best known in this province for playing Des Courtney on the series Republic of Doyle.
