Iceberg Alley says fans of the eleven night concert series call the traditional music night one of their favourites.
The original Irish Descendants will be coming together at this year’s event. Producer Shawn Basha says when they started off the concert four years ago, they did not plan a traditional music night because they were thinking if people were coming out of summer into the September months that they had already heard some of these bands at recent festivals.
Basha expressed that they were wrong and people were so mad at the lack of local headliners in the lineup.
In previous years, Alan Doyle has rocked the tent on trad night, but they wanted to switch things up this year.
This year’s show, on September 19, will feature the Masterless Men and The Navigators with a throwback headliner.
Basha says they were so surprised they were able to get the original Irish Descendants back together.
He states that they paved the way in the 1990s when Newfoundland music was becoming popular across Canada.
The Irish Descendants had a hand in paving the way for bands like Great Big Sea and Celtic Connection. He says record labels wanted to have a piece of whatever the Irish Descendants were doing back then.
