Nalcor says there is no safety risk to workers, the public or any of the Muskrat Falls facility after photos allegedly showing water leaking through the dam, forming a wall of ice, were posted to Facebook.
Officials say all of the structures at the Muskrat Falls site are behaving as expected.
Jenny Gear posted photos of the walkway leading to the gallery on the south side of the Grand River at the Muskrat Falls site. She says the ice has to be beaten away on a daily basis to gain access to the gallery.
Nalcor says some seepage in water-restraining structures is a normal occurrence. Furthermore, Nalcor claims that generation facilities are designed with that in mind and drainage facilities are included in the structures to accommodate for seepage.
The Crown corporation says there is some seepage in some of the concrete and given the cold temperatures, ice has formed because the water is not flowing away.
There is an extensive monitoring program in place, according to Nalcor, and their monitoring program of the Muskrat Falls hydro structures is ongoing.
