There are some changes brewing at the shrimp processing plant in St. Anthony.
Clearwater Seafoods and Quin-Sea Fisheries announced today that they have entered into an agreement to form a new joint venture that that will take over operations at the St. Anthony Seafood Limited Partnership plant.
CEO of Clearwater Seafoods, Ian Smith says the transaction puts a focus on utilization of the St. Anthony facility at a time when the northern shrimp fishery has declined significantly and raw material supply to the plant has been reduced in recent years.
Smith says they are pleased to bring in an experienced Newfoundland operator, and the move will strengthen processing volume and look to diversify species processed at the St. Anthony plant.
Quin-Sea Fisheries will take on management responsibility for the plant.
Managing Director, Simon Jarding says St. Anthony is ideal for both the current production of shrimp and crab, but also for the production of groundfish in the years to come.
Closing of the transaction is subject to regulatory approval and customary conditions and is scheduled for March 31st, 2020.
