Fire destroyed a cabin in Mobile this morning.
Steve and Lisa McBride live next door and woke around 5:00 this morning to discover their power was out.
Lisa McBride says that’s when they noticed the fire.
She noticed the street light was on, but their power was gone. That’s when they realized the sky glowing and looked out to see the neighbouring cabin engulfed in flames.
The cabin, newly built, was unoccupied, and an adjacent older structure nearby was also destroyed.
McBride says it was frightening because of gusting winds in the storm.
It turns out that Newfoundland Power cut the lines, but their power has since been restored.
McBride says the area doesn’t pay for fire services so the best firefighters attending the scene could do was prevent it from spreading to other structures.
It was a worry because they have a lot of animals in barns on their property.
