While intense storm conditions have calmed, we’re not in the clear quite yet.
Many municipalities along Eastern Newfoundland remain under states of emergency while plows tackle the monumental task of clearing roadways.
The Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Fire Department issued an eye-opening reminder of why it’s important to stay home during a state of emergency.
This is what we encountered on the way to an emergency call. @PCSPnl plow operator had to escort us there and back. Remember we are still under a STATE OF EMERGENCY. Please do not leave your home until it was been lifted. #nltraffic #nlwx pic.twitter.com/oJ1gXrEscm

Plow operators have had to escort first responders to emergency calls through the night, cutting paths through impassible roads and towering drifts.
The fire department tweeted an image of one of their emergency trucks passing through a fresh cut. The snow on both sides of the single lane is stacked higher than the truck itself.
They’re reminding people to stay at home until the state of emergency has been lifted.
