Two people were sent to hospital following a fire near Quidi Vidi Lake last evening.
Firefighters were called to a home on Lakeview Ave shortly before 5:30 p.m. As had been the common theme throughout the past few days, accessibility was an issue with only one engine able to directly access the home, forcing additional fire crews to walk to the scene.

Acting Platoon Chief Bob Hiscock of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department says the man got his wife outside the house only to later discover that she had gone back in to find the family cat. That was when firefighters arrived. She was given oxygen and carried roughly 150 metres uphill to an ambulance waiting on Forest Road. Both residents were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
Fire and water caused significant damage to a section of the basement.

It was the fourth fire in a short time for St. John’s Regional.
A home was destroyed on Ennis Ave in the early-morning hours of Saturday. Crews also responded to an electrical fire on Cochrane Street in the afternoon. Heading into the evening, a home on Boyle Street was damaged after a fire that appears to have started around a chimney flue.
