The City of St. John’s confirms that the State of Emergency will remain in effect on Tuesday.
Food stores selling basic foods, including supermarkets, convenience stores and pharmacies are permitted to open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m..
The City says people can walk and drive to their nearest stores in the permitted hours.
However, driving around the City for leisure is not permitted and residents are asked to only drive to and from the store.
Meanwhile, the RNC is asking for the public’s help when food stores open in the capital city tomorrow.
Police are asking that the public ride share when at all possible to reduce the number of vehicles on the city roadways, and only drive directly to and from the store.
The RNC says while they understand the public’s need for essentials such as food, there is still much concern for all first responders being able to travel to and from emergency calls for service as there is a potential of gridlock and traffic being impassible on the roadways.
If you are not in need of essentials, police are asking people to remain off the roads within St. John’s.
The State of Emergency is still in effect for St. John’s and the RNC has been, and will continue to enforce it by ticketing drivers where applicable.
