The provincial government is adding a second telephone line for people who have personal emergencies.
The original line—729-3703—often rings busy, even though there are 15 RNC cadets on the other end.
To help with the high volume of calls, a second phone number has been added in collaboration with the Canadian Red Cross.
Both numbers are specifically for vulnerable persons who have an urgent need for assistance in getting out of their homes.
The second line can be reached at 1-800-863-6582.
The lines are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Calls are being prioritized on the basis of need and not logged on a first-come, first-served basis.
