Rain is heading our way for Monday which could cause flooding issues for the metro region.
Justin Boudreau from Environment Canada says snow is tracking in the more northern areas like Clarenville, Bonavista Peninsula, but on the Avalon rain will be the issue.
Boudreau says the system will pass over the southeastern portion of the island beginning early Monday morning bringing with it about 2 cm or less of snow to the St. John’s region, however there will be about 10-15 mm of rain, 25 mm in some areas which could cause some minor street flooding.
The good news Boudreau says is the temperatures that follow.
He says as far as he can tell the temperatures should get a little bit above zero, maybe as high as 5. The following days the temperatures should stay steady around zero until Thursday which means there won’t be a flash freeze problem.
Boudreau says the rain will bring some of the snow banks down, but there is no place for the water to drain. He adds with the system comes winds that may gust from 60 to 80 km/h.
While many people have been out clearing fire hydrants, might be a good idea to clear the storm drains in your area to help prevent or minimize any flooding issues that may arise.
