A 36-year-old man had to be rescued following a snowmobile accident on Random Island last night.
Clarenville RCMP were called around 8:45 about a snowmobile crash on a pond near Deer Harbour—a remote area of Random Island accessible only by snow machine.
The Triple Bay Eagles Ground Search and Rescue Team out of Clarenville were also called in while the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre arranged for the use of a Cougar helicopter to help in the effort.
The man was airlifted to St. John’s for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash.
The man was wearing a helmet, but he was thrown from the machine.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is under investigation.
