A former city mayor is chairing a brand new group to be known as Taxi Newfoundland.
Andy Wells says the group, focused on the taxi industry, will be formally launched tomorrow morning on VOCM.
Wells told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly the importance of the taxi industry was illustrated by the demand during the recent State of Emergency.
He estimates some 2,025 people made use of taxis when the service was offered up free of charge last week.
He admits the number is hard to compile, but he says some 5,000 people employed as a result of the taxi industry.
