Municipal officials are planning meetings in the coming days to discuss and analyze the region’s response to the January 17 blizzard.
The capital city called a State of Emergency on the day the snow storm hit, forcing the closure of businesses in order to keep traffic off the roads.
The State of Emergency was finally lifted in St. John’s on Saturday, January 25.
Among the items that will need to be addressed as the province and municipalities dissect and analyze the response to Snowmaggedon 2020 is the City of St. John’s Act.
The provincial legislation’s State of Emergency provisions had not been updated in over 30 years and don’t reflect the metro area’s new regional realities.
The capital city’s emergency plan documents are up-to-date however, and are updated on an annual basis with resources dedicated to emergency planning.
