Nalcor Energy has reached what they say is a critical milestone to getting Muskrat Falls online.
They’ve completely filled Unit 1 with water—including the intake and tailrace areas.
Thanks to everyone for their hard work at Muskrat Falls site, we now have filled the Unit 1 turbine with water. Water is in the powerhouse (intake and tailrace areas). All of the structures are behaving as expected. Now Unit 1 is the final stage of testing before first power. pic.twitter.com/wM5owGj0ND

During the process a small amount of water was observed coming through the concrete, but Nalcor assures this is normal.
The company notes the importance of this activity in preparing for the final stage of testing before producing the electricity at the site.
First power is anticipated in the next few months.
