As Canada Post deals with a significant amount of backlog after being off the roads for a full week due to Snowmageddon, their number one priority is getting people’s cheques delivered.
That’s according to Craig Dyer, the Chief Shop Steward for CUPW in Newfoundland and Labrador
Speaking on VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly, Dyer says as of yesterday morning, about half of community mailboxes in St. John’s had been cleared, and about 70 per cent in Mount Pearl.
He notes that in cases where community mailboxes were inaccessible, staff went the extra mile by going door-to-door to deliver the mail.
In cases where nobody was home, and there wasn’t a mailbox on their property, the cheque was taken back to be delivered at another time.
Dyer says crews will be out in force this week to deliver as much mail as they can, to return mail delivery back to normal.
