A well known local phys ed teacher who made her own mark on the local sports scene has passed away.
Donna Brenton died on Tuesday at the age of 63.
Brenton was well known in the local sports community. She was an all-star basketball player at MUN, and played on the St. John’s city league. She was inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.
Brenton was also recognized as one of the premier women’s golfers in the province, winning a number of tournaments during her over 30 years with Bally Haly. She won the Club Championship in 2001, and represented the province at the National Ladies Amateur Tournament in 1998.
Brenton taught Physical Education at Price of Wales for 30 years and inspired many students with her love of sport.
The funeral service will be held tomorrow morning at St. Teresa’s Parish at 9:30 a.m.. Donations in her memory can be made to the In This Together campaign at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre.
