When phys-ed teacher Danny King died suddenly four years ago, people at the school where he taught vowed to keep his memory alive.
“He was always there and always had your back and this is one way to keep his spirit and memory alive” said Morgan Lovell who is the Executive Director of the Swilers Rugy Club.

King was a big part of The Swilers and he also coached the rugby teams at Waterford Valley High.
On Tuesday, members of the boys and girls teams played a short scrimmage in the Fourth Annual Danny King Memorial Winter Rugby Game.

They trudged through knee-deep snow to take part in a game King loved as a player and a coach.
Grade 12 student Alyssa Jenkins never met King, but she knew she had to keep this event going. “So many people respected him, I felt I had to keep this going” she told VOCM News.
Former colleague Peter MacDonald was there watching the game. He said “Danny was a large man..physically, but he also had a big heart and he lived that way passing on that spirit to his students.”
MacDonald says King, who was also accomplished in the sport of powerlifting, was a dedicated mentor to those who played rugby. “He loved the kids and his commitment was to them and the game itself.”
