A Sunnyside resident whose garage and shed were damaged by snow is encouraging property owners to examine their insurance policies after his insurance company refused to pay for damage caused by a recent avalanche.

Patrick Farrell took comfort in the fact that he had insurance when an avalanche destroyed the buildings. He took to Facebook after learning that his company will not cover the damage.

He says he had $72,000 in outbuilding insurance but was told he wasn’t covered.

He was told any type of a ground slide wasn’t covered. He suggests that property owners have a good look at their policies to see if they’re covered for natural disasters.
