Some local tourism operators are reporting an increase in calls and inquiries following the eight-day State of Emergency in the capital city region.
Cathy Duke of Destination St. John’s says people appeared to be moved and interested by the way in which local residents came together and dealt with a record-breaking snowfall that shut down the capital city for more than a week.
She believes the national exposure helped to spark more bookings among people who have long considered coming here.
Duke says while many tourist come to Newfoundland and Labrador for the scenery, wildlife and history, a growing number of visitors are coming for the culture and people.
