Two Newfoundland companies have made it to the finals of a contest for boat building innovation.
As part of the Hull Design Efficiency Challenge from ACOA, 19 companies submitted designs for fuel efficient boat hulls.
Three companies have made it to the final round: TriNav Marine Design of St. John’s, Allswater of both St. John’s and Halifax, and Wedgeport Boats of Lower Wedgeport Nova Scotia.
In the next round of the challenge, the National Research Council of Canada will build and test scale models of the designs at the Ocean, Coastal and River Engineering Research Centre in St. John’s.
The winners will be awarded $500,000 with the expectation that they will continue improving their designs and working towards commercialization.
